Jobs for people who are distanced from the job market
The umcs are committed to helping more people who are distanced from the job market find work and keep their jobs. We do this through various initiatives.
Job Quota Agreement
Since 2015, employers in the public sector, including the umcs, have been working to help 25,000 people who are unable to earn the minimum wage independently find employment: the Job Quota Agreement in the Jobs and Jobs Quota (Work Disabled Persons) Act. UMCNL supports the umcs ambition to develop into inclusive academic healthcare organisations. The umcs have more than 550 jobs for people who are distanced from the labour market under the Job Quota Agreement. And that number is increasing every year. UMCNL has set up a learning circle and a Diversity and Inclusion working group, with participants from all umcs, to share best practices.
Starting talent with a chronic physical disability
The umcs help young people with disabilities find work through various initiatives. The collaboration between the seven umcs and the Emma at Work foundation is setting in motion a movement to refer talented young people with chronic physical conditions through the medical centre to Emma at Work, where they receive free guidance towards the labour market.
In the longer term, the intention is to create more opportunities for these young talents within the university medical centres’ own teams. To inspire employees about the value of diversity and what these talents can contribute, Emma at Work organises inspirational sessions at the umcs, among other things.
Residence permit holders with a background in healthcare
The umcs are actively committed to helping residence permit holders (status holders) with a background in healthcare find work. Because foreign qualifications are often not recognised in the Netherlands, this requires the necessary guidance and training in the language and culture of Dutch healthcare.
Status holders who worked as nurses in their home country often start here in the Netherlands at the level of nursing assistant. By offering guidance and training, they can obtain BIG registration and progress to the position of nurse.
